First edit we have for this episode is a dialogue edit. Nappa asks Vegeta why they have to wait three hours, Vegeta says he wants to wait for Kakarrot so he can make him suffer…
Nappa starts talking to Vegeta about who is fighting who in three hours. Nappa says he want to “sink his teeth” into Piccolo, Gohan and Krillin. Vegeta replies…
Nappa then says…
A little later on, Nappa gets bored and decides to play with the news people. Nappa shoots his eye beams at a crowed of camera men and reporters, the shot of the crowed is cut out of the TV version…
Eventually the 3 hour grace period comes to an end and Goku hasn’t arrived yet. Krillin yells out…
Meanwhile, Goku finally makes it back to the check in station. King Yemma’s name plaque is edited to read “King Yemma”… (Yea, this shot was from youtube, sorry….)
Later, Piccolo plans an attack and puts it into action. Piccolo grabs Nappa’s tail but it doesn’t faze him. Nappa looks back at Piccolo and says “You son of a… “, this was cut in the TV version.
In the uncut version, the next shot was of Piccolo in shock with a purple bruise on his head. The camera zooms out and Nappa comes into the frame. This was all cut in the TV version…
They did show a shot of Piccolo being hurt by Nappa’s attack. It was the shot right before Piccolo faints and Nappa tosses him to the ground…
Funny thing is in the TV version we see Krillin in the air looking down and saying “This…this isn’t happening” then we see Piccolo fainting. But originally, this scene came after Piccolo fainted. You can see Piccolo already slumped over in the Krillin shot, see… 😕
After Piccolo faints, Nappa is holding his body and tells him not to die because they have questions about the DragonBalls. This was cut…
With Piccolo down, Nappa now goes after Gohan. Originally, Nappa kicks Gohan up in the air then chops him into a mountain\rock wall type of thing. But in the TV Version we only see Nappa about to chop, a white flash, then we see Gohan hit the wall.
Nappa then tells Gohan…
Nappa then rushes to attack Gohan again but this time Krillin intervenes. Originally Krillin kicks Nappa, then punches him in the face. In the TV Version Krillin only punches him, the kick is cut out…
So, like I just said, Krillin only punches Nappa in the TV version but, I realized even that punch was edited. It’s slight but it’s there. Basically the frame of animation that shows Krillin connecting with his punch has a flash of light instead. It reminds me of the Saban edits. More on this in the tidbit section.
Next Krillin powers up an attack and throws it at Nappa. Yes, it’s the Kienzan. I didn’t mark this as an edit cause it’s the first time we are hearing this attack name so if they’re going with Kienzan then, it’s not really an edit. If later on he calls it a Destructo-Disc though, then it becomes an edit.
So, Krillin throws the damn thing at Nappa. He dodges it at the last second, but it still manages to nick his face. Any shot of Nappa after this scene is edited. I’m not going to show every scene he’s in after this because well, it’s a lot. So here is the first edit of Nappa’s cut… I know these shots were taken at two different points within the zoom out shot of Nappa’s face… but I thought it was good enough…
Pissed that he missed, Krillin says…
Nappa then throws an energy blast at Krillin that knocks Krillin to the floor. Nappa is about to finish him off but then Piccolo blast Nappa’s back. Nappa and Piccolo have an exchange of words, some are edited…
Piccolo and the others start to sense Goku. Piccolo says…
Fearing the arrival of Goku, Vegeta tells nappa to kill them all! Gohan steps in and tells piccolo he can handle Nappa by himself. Nappa charges toward Gohan. Piccolo thinks to himself…
But, surprisingly Gohan kicks Nappa right in the face sending him flying. In the TV version again, right when the attack connects, we get a flash on the screen and then a black screen with some impact lines, I’m gonna talk about this in the tidbits section so just hold on for now.
This, of course pisses Nappa off. He conjures up some power full energy in his hand and is about to throw it at Gohan. Nappa was originally all bloody in this scene, he is now cleaned up in the TV version…
Nappa throws the ki blast at Gohan (blood is also edited so, two pictures) and yells…
We then see another shot of Nappa, with blood edited out. The episode ends as Piccolo jumps in front of Nappa’s blast. Dun, dun dun!
Oh and by the way, “It’s over 9,000” will indeed be in the TV version of episode 12. Chris Sabat says it just like Brian Drummond so you know they only changed it for this internet fad… thing…
So, I want to talk about these screens that are replacing connecting hits. I’m going to talk about, specifically, when Gohan kicked Nappa. These are the two frames of animation right before the flash comes on…
You, see that black screen? That’s not in the original version. I guess that’s what is going to be replacing connecting hits to the face. I gotta say I like this better then the way it was done back in 1996. This way seems less distracting, you would never known anything was cut out… unless you’re a Daizexer, of course.
So… yea, put that in your pipe and smoke it…
