Episode 59: Undetectable Monsters! The Androids Appear!

The first edit pops up about 5 minutes into the episode. Goku, Gohan, Krillin, Tenshinhan, Piccolo, Yamcha and Bulma holding a baby, have now all met on a mountain ridge looking over the island the Androids have said to first appear.

As to be expected everyone questions “where did the baby came from?” After Yamcha says he’s not the Father, Goku says to the baby “the proud Papa’s Vegeta, right Trunks?”. A few shock reactions later, Piccolo asks Bulma where Vegeta is, she answers…

A few moments later, Yajirobe flies down to the ridge on his sky car, he just came to give everyone some Senzu. As he leaves he yells to the others…

Goku asks Yajirobe if he’s gonna stick around and fight with them. Yajirobe replies…

Yajirobe flies off but soon after his sky car blows up, the others look on and notice two figures flying into the city. They come to the conclusion that those are the androids but they can’t sense them since they’re machines. Everyone flies into the city to look for them the old fashion way. As Krillin swoops down, one pedestrian says…

Meanwhile, the androids come across some other pedestrians who just saw the sky car blow up. Android 19, for what seems to be no real reason, head butts one of the men and punches the other. The man he head butts wasn’t edited for the TV version but the guy he punched had a typical flash screen added to the punch…

And also the scrolling reaction shot after the punch was cut out…

Next, Android 20 comes across a man who’s just trying to pass with his car. Android 20 destroys the man’s engine then grabs the man and picks him up by the neck right through the roof of his car and continues to choke him. As you might have guessed, Android 20 picking the man up by the neck through the roof of the car and chocking him was cut out of the TV version…

A woman screams, which alerts Yamcha who is nearby. There is a small shot of Android 20 turning around and dropping the man. In the TV version the shot begins right as the man is out of the frame…

Yamcha lurks around the area he heard the scream. He looks behind a corner and sees the man that was punched by Android 19. There is a small blood edit here and also a few moments later when this man appears in a shot again…

Not seeing anyone around, Yamcha runs out and yells…

They just omitted “What the Hell?!” from this line.

Yamcha then decides to call the others…

But on second thought, he hasn’t actually found them so decides not to. Just then, the androids confront Yamcha and tell them they’re the androids he’s looking for. Android 20 grabs a hold of his face and impales him with ease with just his hand. Now, of course this is cut. The scene is cut right before Android 20 impales Yamcha…

After a shot seeing Gohan and Yajirobe flying over the water, and a reaction shot of Bulma looking down into the city, we return to the scene where Yamcha has been impaled by Android 20. This next shot shows a very limp looking Yamcha, then the android taking his hand out of Yamcha, causing a good amount of blood to fall to the floor. This was all just cut…

After some shots of the others feeling Yamcha’s power falling, we see Android 20 sensing the arrival of the other Z-Warriors. The shot of Yamcha in Android 20’s hand was cut…

Then another small cut a few moments later. Which seems to almost be for no particular reason…

I’m sure seeing the shot that was cut you’re thinking it was cut because of that man in the background looks like he has a broken neck. But I don’t think that’s the case because that guy pops up in the background multiple times later on.

Tenshinhan is the first to arrive to see Yamcha in bad condition. The shot of Yamcha was edited out…

Goku, Krillin and Piccolo soon arrive to the scene. Android 20 moves Yamcha’s body over slightly to see everyone. This was cut…

A few reaction shots from everyone, and Yamcha gets tossed to the ground. Yamcha’s hole is now digitally painted black…

Goku tells Krillin to bring Yamcha to the ridge and feed him a Senzu. Yamcha’s hole and blood on the ground are edited from here on out…

Goku then tells Krillin…

Piccolo then tells Goku these aren’t the type of androids he was expecting. Android 20 is curious how he knew they were androids. Piccolo yells to him…

Goku tells the androids if they want to fight, they’ll have to take it outside the city limits. Android 20 tells Goku if the problem is too many people around, it can be corrected and starts blasting away randomly at buildings. Enraged by this Goku punches Android 20 right in the face. Now, this was an odd edit. As Goku punches Android 20, the punch is shown but somewhat shortened. In both versions there is a white flash, and then the first two frames after the flash there is a flash at the point of contact and of light coming from Goku’s fist for dramatic effect. These frames with the light flash from Goku’s fist weren’t in the TV version.

Only two frames out of nineteen frames of Android 20 getting punched (before his hat falls off) where kept in the TV version. This cut was less than 1 second…

The slow motion reaction shot of Android 20 getting thrown back from the punch was cut all together.

Meanwhile, Yamcha, now healed, looks down on the city with the others and says…

Yamcha needs to warn Goku and the others that they can drain energy. Meanwhile Goku, Piccolo, Tenshinhan and the androids relocate their battlefield. The episode ends soon after.

There is a slight dialogue edit during the preview for next episode during Android 20’s voice over. He tells Goku “…And I estimate number 19 can destroy you without my intervention. The word “destroy” was changed to “defeat”.
